The first five years of life are critical for a child’s development in terms of relationship with other people, learning to speak, physical and psychological growth. In this period, called infancy, parents exchange information, visit pediatricians and sometimes child psychologists, they plough through the internet and do whatever is possible to make sure that their young ones get the best possible help. Nothing is left to chance in the quest to offer them every possible existing opportunity.
There is another period of life that is almost equally important, but for some reason is not accompanied by the same enthusiasm. This period does not even have a defining name and we don’t know exactly when it begins or ends. It is safe to say that it occurs around the age of twenty something years. This is an age when we assume that our relationship with other people might lead to something important such as a new family from which new cycles of childhood development begin. In this period people usually make the transition from being dependent to that of self-sufficiency to that of caring and helping others develop. If the nation has to be defended against enemies, we look to people of this age to be ready, step forward and protect us. Decisions taken, or not taken, in this period of life can have everlasting consequences for ourselves as well as society. Despite all this. it is amazing in what solitude these young adults are left. We should invest in projects that help adult beginners develop into full adults.
